Bili-Read is a device for measuring bilirubin levels in infants. Bilirubin is a chemical in the blood, and too much of it causes jaundice. Today, most newborns are tested with a heelstick to draw blood from the infant. This method can be traumatizing for the parents. Bili-Read is the result of a collaborative project with the engineering and design school’s at UC with the goal of developing a device that matches the accuracy of a heelstick, but does so non-invasively.
